On February 15th and 16th, Arv Edgewort, director of Truth and Science Ministries and Pastor at Trinity Baptist Church in Flushing, MI, will be coming to Northwest Baptist Church in Farmington Hills to spread his pseudoscientific creationist dogma. Michigan Atheists plan to be in attendance at the 3:00pm seminar on Saturday.
Organizations like Edgeworth's spawn legislation such as House Bill 4382 of 2001, which would have mandated a disclaimer for the teaching of evolution, saying that it is an "unproven theory". The bill also would have provided equal time in biology classrooms for intelligent design. Since 70% of Americans do not believe that evolution occurred, science education is vulnerable to this legislation.
Our plan is to attend the seminar to speak our minds, if possible. If we are not allowed to speak, are asked to leave, or are forcibly removed, we plan to picket the seminar.
Northwest Baptist Church is located at 23845 Middlebelt Rd in Farmington Hills, just south of 10 Mile Rd.
